About Audry Fryer

I love relaxing (a.k.a. escaping) with a good book! Because I’m an author and an avid reader, I wanted a website to help tons of people enjoy their best bookish af life. (The “af” is a fun play on my initials!)

What’s my story? Well, I was born – Hold up, that’s wayyyyy too far back.

Let’s start with something more current …

I live with my husband, three children, two pugs, and two tree frogs on a country road overlooking a pond about an hour west of Philadelphia, PA. My house is within a short walking distance of a state park.

Chapter 1: Mom of Teenagers

My children are all presently teenagers. I have a son and boy/girl twins.

My oldest son attends Alvernia University and is working on an engineering degree. He lives on campus except on weekends when he brings home his laundry. I repeatedly tell him he should do it there. It’s a whole thing.

My son and daughter attend high school in the mornings and then attend tech school. He’s learning to weld, and she’s studying cosmetology. They’re both busy teenagers and enjoy thinking I’m their personal driver for their activities. I’m both excited and terrified for them to get their driver’s licenses.

Chapter 2: How I Became a Writer (Spoiler alert: I started as a teacher.)

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I was pursuing being a teacher and happily taught Pre-K for many years. When I discovered I was pregnant with twins and my oldest son was only two years old, I decided to become a stay-at-home mom.

While my children were little, I rediscovered my love of reading and my dream of being a writer. My mom loves to read. Since she’s pretty fantastic at picking out great stories, she’d pass along her books to me.

As my children grew, I wrote and read (and wrote some more) while they were at school or napping. I self-published two women’s fiction novels and one short story during that time. Recently in collaboration with a family (related through marriage to my husband), I released Until Next Sunday, a beautiful historical romance.

Chapter 3: What’s next?

Along with writing novels, I expanded my writing career with blog writing and freelance writing. The Bookish af blog is my second blog, and I hope to make it an excellent resource for finding your next read and everything related to living your best reading life.

5 Fascinating FAQs About Audry Fryer

1. Why do spell Audry without an “e” when most people spell your name with it?

While I’m named after Audrey Hepburn (which I totally love), my mom thought my name looked better without the “e.” And now that I’m Audry Fryer, it’s very satisfying that my first and last names have an equal five letters. I’m a Libra – we like everything balanced!

2. What are your favorite genres and authors?

I enjoy reading fiction the most, especially women’s fiction and beach reads. Give me a good story with relatable characters! Depending on my mood, I also enjoy reading a mystery or a psychological thriller. And, I’m not opposed to reading nonfiction from time to time if it’s on a subject I find fascinating.

My favorite authors are Elin Hilderbrand, Jennifer Weiner, Jodi Piccoult, Liane Moriarty, and Emily Giffin. But I also love discovering new authors like Taylor Jenkins Reid.

3. Where and when do you like to read?

Since I work from home, the book I’m currently reading is my lunch date. When I have free time, and it’s nice weather, I’ll read outside on my little patio. Otherwise, I’ll snuggle in bed to read (with a steaming mug of tea by my side). Plus, I bring my book with me when I’m on the go and read in my van while I wait.

4. Other than reading, what do you like to do?

Most of all, I love spending time with my family, friends, and my two pugs. Also, I enjoy getting outside. I’m either working on my flower/vegetable gardens or going for a hike. On weekends, I look forward to relaxing with a movie (usually a comedy). And my husband and I have fun trying out new wines and rating them on Vinvino.

5. What are the names of your pugs?

I have two pugs, one female, Pickles, and one male, Waffles. My daughter wanted a pug ever since she was in first grade. Initially, she wanted a pet “pig,” but she spelled it “pug.” Once she discovered what a pug was, she never gave up on asking for one. We adopted Pickles at the beginning of the pandemic. A year later and a half later, we adopted Waffles.
