This time of year, I love picking up a captivating, magical book with a witches theme. There’s something about reading books featuring mystical ladies that makes me wish I could cast a spell or whip up a potion (benign, of course) for the people and situations in my life. How fun would that be!

If you love all things “witches,” you’re in for a wicked good time. I’ve boiled, toiled, and troubled to summon up a few new fiction releases and all-time favorites to keep you spellbound throughout Autumn (and all year long if this theme is your go-to)!

The Best Witch Books (That You May Not Know!)

The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow

The Once and Future Witches Alix E. Harrow Author

This compelling novel intertwines magic, family, and the suffragette movement. Once, witches existed. However, now witchcraft merely manifests as harmless charms and nursery rhymes. If women hope to gain any semblance of power, they must seek it through their right to vote.

However, when the Eastwood sisters, James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna, align themselves with the suffragettes of New Salem, they embark on a mission to revive the forgotten words and ways that could transform the women’s movement into a movement for witches.

My thoughts: I’m intrigued by how this book weaves the fantastical world of witches and a significant historical time for the women’s movement. It’s certainly a read that will draw on your intellect!

Weyward: A Novel by Emilia Hart

Weyward: A Novel Emilia Hart Author

This is the story of three exceptional women from different eras who rely on their resilience in the face of adversity and the transformative influence of nature.

In 2019, Kate seeks solace in Weyward Cottage and discovers hints of a secret from her great aunt’s past linked to the witch hunts of the 17th century.

In 1619, Altha is on trial for the murder of a local farmer. She must harness her abilities to maintain her freedom against the accusations of witchcraft.

Amidst the chaos of World War II in 1942, Violet finds herself trapped in her deteriorating family estate, constrained by societal norms. The only mementos she has are a locket pointing to her mother’s mysterious past.

My Thoughts: While the story involves witches, it doesn’t focus heavily on magic or spells but rather on the personal journeys of these women as they triumph over the misogyny and abuse they face.
