Now, I’ve already gotten ahead of myself by sharing Poor Things at the top list. But the rest of these acclaimed books-that-are-movies deserve a second round of applause.
And the nomination goes to…
American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin
This book inspired Oppenheimer, which was nominated for 13 awards, including Best Picture Nominee, which it won. It’s a captivating biography on the page or the screen about the inventor of the atomic bomb.

Find a Way by Diana Nyad
The inspiring film, Nyad earned Annette Bening a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The memoir and the movie share the amazing true story of how a then 64-year-old Nyad swam 111 miles from Cuba to Florida.
Erasure by Percival Everett
The movie American Fiction earned five nominations, including Best Picture Nominee, and won the Oscar for best-adapted screenplay. The story features a fascinating look at the publishing industry.
