What recent celebrity book club picks are worth reading?
Reese’s Book Club
Renowned actress and producer Reese Witherspoon started her now wildly popular book club in 2017 to celebrate, promote, and foster a love for literature by highlighting and supporting female authors and diverse voices.
Her selected books often land on bestseller lists and become TV and film adaptations. Most notably, Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid became a bestseller and an original streaming series produced by Reese (on Prime Video). The show based on the book even has a line of cool, retro 70’s theme merch!
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
March 2023 Reese Book Club Pick
Reese’s Book Club says The Nightingale is “arguably one of the most powerful, most captivating novels about WWII in recent years. This important story illuminates a part of history that’s often overlooked: the women’s war.”
I love Kristin Hannah as an author and this book is one of her best. Read it if you love well-told, detailed historical fiction.
The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson
February 2023 Reese Book Club Pick
This book will pull you in and hook you until the end. Set in 1950s Philadelphia and Washington, DC, it tells the story of Ruby and Eleanor. These two women have aspirations for their future that bring them together and forever alter their lives.
Reese explains, “Amazing…These two women’s lives intersect in the most wonderful and unlikely of ways. I was completely surprised by the ending of this beautifully told and written book.”
The Today Show’s Read with Jenna book club
Today Show’s Jenna Bush Hager selects a new, thought-provoking read every month. Her handpicked choices often include diverse novels, biographies, and memoirs. And best of all, you can watch insightful conversations about the book and fascinating author interviews on the Today Show.
Camp Zero by Michelle Min Sterling
April 2023 Today Show #ReadWithJenna Book Club Pick
Camp Zero is a building project in Northern Canada established as a refuge in a climate-change-ravaged world. However, when Rose arrives under false-pretenses to observe what’s really going on, all is not as it seems.
This atmospheric, post-apocalyptic science fiction novel has plot twists, suspense, and surprising moments of heart. Jenna shared, “It is action-packed. I read it so fast. My sister did, too. You are going to love it.” (Release date April 4, 2023)
The Cloisters by Katy Hays
November Today Show #ReadWithJenna Book Club2022 Pick
Jenna chose this book because “I feel like it’s the perfect mystery.” And you may well agree! This instant bestseller is set in New York’s famed Met Cloisters and features an enigmatic deck of tarot cards.
Ann Stillwell didn’t know what she was getting into when she joined a group of researchers studying divination at the gothic museum. Soon, Ann becomes swept into a world of mystery and danger when she discovers tarot cards that no one was supposed to find.
Oprah’s Book Club
The legendary Oprah Winfrey started her book club all the way back in 1996, and it’s still going strong today! Oprah has handpicked an array of novels that showcase diverse voices, powerful narratives, and provocative themes. Oprah’s Book Club celebrates the joys and the meaningful experiences that books bring to our lives.
Hello Beautiful By Ann Napolitano
Oprah’s 100th Pick
William Waters grew up in an unhappy home, to say the least. However, when he meets Julia and becomes welcomed into her family, he finally feels happy and at home. Unfortunately, he’s not at peace for long. This character-driven drama tests the bounds of love.
Be prepared to be fully immersed and have a box of tissues ready, according to Oprah. “I’m telling you, once you start, you won’t want it to end…and be prepared for tears.”
Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
Oprah’s 98th Pick
Demon Copperhead is not only the name of this book but also the main character. Demon was born into poverty in the mountains of southern Appalachia. The story has moments of humor and heartbreak as it follows the highs and lows of Demon’s life. Interestingly, this novel is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’s David Copperfield.
Barbara Kingsolver is a masterful storyteller and a native to the same region as the setting of this book. If you enjoy this novel, I encourage you to read more of her works, especially The Poisonwood Bible. Oprah says of Demon Copperhead, “It’s an absolutely riveting read.”
GMA Book Club (Good Morning America)
Good Morning America (GMA) on the ABC network launched this book club in 2019. It’s quickly become an established haven for book lovers to connect, explore, and engage with noteworthy authors and their works.
Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson
March 2023 Pick
This celebrity book club pick has been getting a lot of hype lately! The appeal may be from its entertaining, character-driven mix of humor and drama that only wealthy New York City nepotism can provide.
The GMA Book Club describes it well. “This glamorous escape takes place on Pineapple Street in Brooklyn Heights, one of New York City’s most desirable neighborhoods, and home to the well-connected Stockton family.”
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
April 2022 Pick
A year ago, the GMA book club choose this novel, stating, “This dazzling debut has been named one of the most anticipated books of the year.” They sure know how to pick them – Lessons in Chemistry has now sold over one million copies!
What makes it so popular? It has wit, a unique heroine, and a fresh view of early feminism. Chemist Elizabeth Zott becomes the unlikely host of a 1960s TV cooking show. The fun twist? She’s sharing lessons of empowerment along with her recipes.
Fallon Book Club (The Tonight Show)
The late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon decided to try something no other host had done before – start a book club! Jimmy features one book every summer that he declares “everyone must read.” Like last summer’s pick (see below), that book often becomes an instant bestseller.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
Since last summer’s announcement, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow has received accolades, and accolades, and accolades from bestseller lists to nominations as “one of the best books of the year.”
Sam and Sadie became platonic best friends during their junior year at Harvard. A few years later, they collaborated to design a blockbuster video game. Their success brings highs and lows that test their friendship (and keep readers turning pages).

Co-founded by actress Emma Roberts and her best friend, Karah Preiss, Belletrist aims to foster a love of reading while connecting people worldwide through the power of storytelling. Emma and Karah spotlight a carefully chosen book each month, interview the authors, and encourage discussions among their followers across various social media platforms.
What Happened to Ruthy Ramirez by Claire Jimenez
March 2023 Pick
This newly released novel follows the Ramirez women of Staten Island, a Puerto Rican family plagued by the disappearance of their thirteen-year-old, Ruthy. Several years later, Ruthy is spotted on a reality TV show. The family sets out on a road trip to bring Ruthy home.
The Emma Roberts’ Belletrist Book Club describes it as “a vivid family portrait, in all its shattered reality, exploring the familial bonds between women and cycles of generational violence, colonialism, race, and silence, replete with snark, resentment, tenderness, and, of course, love.”
Between Two Books by Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine)
British singer-songwriter Florence Welch of the band Florence and the Machine (you’re probably familiar with Dog Days Are Over) started a book club at the request of one of her young fans. Unfortunately, the book club hasn’t chosen a new book since October 2022. But you can cruise their Insta and Twitter posts for past picks!
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
First published in 1959, this frightening haunted house story has been turned into a thrilling Netflix series (that I tried to watch, but it was too scary for me!).
On Instagram, the book club invited readers by stating, “join us as we follow Dr. Montague’s group of spiritual investigators who seek to unlock the house’s secrets: Theodora, a lighthearted telepath; Eleanor, a friendless and fragile woman well acquainted with poltergeist; and Luke, the future heir to Hill House.”
